Hall Ridge Memorial
Project type
Academic Work
Location
Hall Ridge, OR
In memory of the land damaged from the Summer 2020 forest fires. I propose a multi-purpose gallery & hiking destination that aids sustainability activists in the fight against climate change. Located on the edge of Hall Ridge, OR, overlooking Detroit Lake. Accomplishing this through a personal acknowledgment of a user's actions as they move throughout this space. Reorienting them through architecture, accompanied by a program that supports a pursuit of change. The journey to the forum includes about a 40-minute drive from Detroit Lake’s downtown. This is then followed by a walk that slowly traps the user into an architectural disorientation, mimicking the smoke from prior forest fires. A moment of personal confrontation arises at the end of the entrance when the first action occurs: opening the door. Ahead lies a view of Mt. Jefferson made possible through the extraction of the wall. This same panel is then used for the table presented to the user with a single unmoving seat. Transitioning from private to public, a gallery hall descends, leading you to the open forum space. A hike is presented at the bottom of the terraformed hill, giving the user time to reflect amongst the trees as they make their way back.
